He had 20 months' service out of which

did the clerical part of his duties.
Still, he was thoroughly overhauled by Dr. Manson just before he
left England (i.e. in May, 1899)
and he was examined during the same
month by the Medical Officer of the
Prudential Assurance Company and his
life was accepted for insurance,
so that there is ample evidence he was
in sound health on leaving England.

21/11/00) and yet in November 1900
he was certified by Drs. Bell and
Stewart to be suffering from
Phthisis and unfit for further
service in this Colony. The Board
may, in view of this be inclined to
recommend a charitable allowance.
